ROC FUNDS POLITICISED: Ete

The Solomon Islands National Parliament Public Accounts Committee with its midterm budget review hearings has question the Ministry of Mines Energy and Rural Electrification MMERE on the ROC Solar Rural Electrification fund disburse to the office of the Prime Minister.

The member of Parliament for East Honiara, Douglas Ete told the committee the ROC funds has clip on the hands of politicians especially in the Office of the Prime Minister which the particular funds disbursed to and what are the plans of the Ministry of Mines Energy and Rural Electrification of addressing that.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines Energy and Rural Electrification, Henry pika, responding to the committee, in terms of administration of ROC funds the current arrangement has been in place before he was newly appointed as PS.

“However my office will work with the Office of the Prime Minister to come up with policies to guide his Ministry to where they can come in to jointly administer the funds” PS said.

He suggested there should be a policy in place to administer the particular ROC funds not falling on the hands of politicians.

The National Parliament of Solomon Islands Public Accounts Committee continued with its midterm review budget review hearings this week.
